Hello. Here is a listing of all of my published flash fiction works from 2024 until ??. (I consider flash fiction to be between 100 and 1000 words.) They are listed with the most recent publications on the top and I have the work’s title, when and where it was published, and a brief blurb or history of the story. Most of these stories are on the web and I have linked to them. I hope you enjoy.

An ex-girlfriend never cared for me writing science fiction. She felt I should write “real” stories. When I tried to explain to her how science fiction stories could be inspiring, she waved them off. This was just me having fun with that.

I first wrote this story years ago because I was tired of hearing people saying we shouldn’t do something – that often would improve the lives of countless Americans – because it wasn’t the intent of the Founding Fathers. I reposted it because it, unfortunately, seems to just be becoming more relevant.

A couple months ago, I went through my old stories that were no longer online to find stuff to repost. I saw “A Whale of a Tale,” and figured that would work just fine. Well, after I posted it, I went to write this blurb and I couldn’t remember where the idea for this story came from, so I looked at the blurb the first time I posted this, and saw it was based on a real event. So this happened, but I completely forgot about it. But it lives on only as a whale of a tale.

The sad thing is, when Why Capitalism Ultimately Failed is finally written, there will be so many people deserving to have whole chapters on them that the book will be massive. It will be like an encyclopedia set.

I first wrote this story almost ten years ago as part of one of my 30 Stories in 30 Days Challenges. Those stories were published on a site that’s no longer around, but apparently, at the time I wasn’t overly thrilled by the story, wishing I had more time to hammer it out. Yet I just did some minor changes for this version. Either I was overly harsh with myself in the past, or I’ve gotten sloppy in my old age. Probably both.

The hardest part about writing this story, is that I wanted to reference some “believably crazy” things a worthless politician could have said, but we have politicians saying fucking insane things.

This story started when, after racing through the rain to my car with groceries, the rain stopped once I was in my car. It got me thinking about a rain god playing with people. At first, the story was to have a goddess getting back and an old boyfriend, but then I realized that had too much of a psycho ex-girlfriend vibe. So I changed it to a Rain Prince, which just gave it a creepy stalker vibe.

I’m not that bad.
There was a lot of stuff I had to deal with this month. None of them were really bad, there were just several things that exhausted me. As a result, for most of the month I was in a “Wish to have written” mood. I did start a story for the month, but the more I worked on it, the more I realized I needed to add more details in so the ending made sense. So I had to set it aside, and scrambled to get this out. This isn’t the greatest of stories, but for something I came up with the idea and wrote over two days, it’s not bad.

I think I had read some news article where some rich prick complained that too often rich people were portrayed as villains. That stuck in my head for a while, and I eventually came up with this little story about a rich prick getting his just deserts.

This was original published back in 2011 on Smashwords, which was merged, or bought or something by Draft2Digital. I haven’t really looked into the matter. But this story has a new home, so a new listing.
In some ways, this will be a dark day for scifi writers. But it would also be fantastic.
