Monthly Story for January 2023

“Resolved”

After a glance around the crowded apartment, Cindy asked, “So, ah, do you have any resolutions?” She immediately wanted to kick herself. What a dork, she thought. That’s a stupid thing to ask.

But Amy just laughed. “I’m going to screw up in new ways.”

Even though the music wasn’t that loud, Cindy wasn’t sure she had heard correctly. “What?”

“Oh,” Amy explained with exaggerated hand gestures, “I screwed up a lot last year. Like, a lot, a lot. But a bunch of them were very similar to screw ups from previous years. So my resolution is to try for all new screw ups.”

Cindy groaned. “I can’t handle the screw ups I have, I can’t imagine wanting new ones.”

Amy took Cindy by the shoulders. “Without screw ups, life is just … screw downs.”

Cindy chuckled. “You’re pretty drunk, aren’t you.”

Amy laughed. “You think I’m pretty.”

Cindy blushed, but she smiled. Maybe some screw ups were good.
