Stephen L. Thompson’s Fan Fiction

Stephen L. Thompson’s
Fan Fiction

Many years ago, I read an interview with a TV writer. The one thing that struck me was how he said if you want to make it as a writer for TV, you need to be able to write for multiple shows. The reason being that writers who stretch their writing muscles by writing for different shows – generally – are better writers.

Now I don’t have plans to write for TV shows. That could change, but I’m not holding my breath. But after reading that interview I figured the best way I could stretch my writing muscles would be by writing fan fiction for my favorite shows. That was a good idea. I just, didn’t really have any ideas for stories.

For several years now, I’ve thought about adding a fanfic page to my website thinking that if I put up the page, I’d have to fill it with stories. Well, now (late March 2013) I’m in the process of entering a Doctor Who fanfic contest, so I figured now would be the time to put up this page. I do have a few ideas for stories in other universes, I just need to write them. Hopefully, this will prompt me.

Just to be clear, all rights belong to the real owners of these franchises. I am only putting these stories up for fun and because I love these shows. I’m not trying to make money off of these, in fact I’m not even putting ads on this page just so nobody can say I’m trying to profit from their intellectual property. So if you have a problem with this, then you probably need to chill.

“Rest in Peace”

March 31, 2013, Figment (Defunct)
October 21, 2021, My Rambling Blog

This story began as a dream. In the dream, I was walking along the sidewalk and I saw the Tenth Doctor carrying bags of groceries or something, and he stopped at a beat up old vending machine. He soniced it, and it opened up to be a TARDIS, slowly decaying in plain view. The image stuck with me, and since I had been kicking around the idea of doing some fanfic stories at some point, I started working on a story based on that.

After a few months, I had a bit of an idea, but I hadn’t actually started writing anything. Then I saw a post about Figment’s The Doctor Who Fan-Fiction Contest. The prompt was “In 1,200 words or fewer, write a story inspired by Doctor Who.” So I finally sat down and wrote out this story.

After Figment went belly-up, the story just gathered dust on my laptop. But then I figured I should repost it.

“Jedi ER”

January 2015, Oneoveralpha’s Writing

I don’t know if this really counts as fanfic, it’s more stupid parody, but I didn’t have anything else on this page.

A friend of mine was always wondering what was up with George Lucas and the cutting off of limbs. Then one day, I just got this funny little idea and pounded out this story.

At the time, I posted it on my MySpace page, but then that went away. So I revised it and posted it on Post Any Article so people could still enjoy it. For a week or so, before it was deleted. So I put it on my blog. Hope that lasts longer than a Jedi’s limbs.
